Nuad Thai and Swedish Massage
THAI MASSAGE
Thai Nuad massage is one of the ancient healing arts of traditional Thai medicine and has its roots in Indian Ayurvedic medicine and yoga. Traditional Thai massage fluidly blends gentle rocking, rhythmic acupressure and assisted stretches to relax and revitalize the body and mind.
The body's energies lines are the focus of Thai massage. Although similar to the meridians of Chinese acupressure, Thai energy lines, known as Sen, are believed to flow through the entire body and are therefore not associated with specific organs. The masseuse exerts pressure on the energy lines and pressure points along them, using the palms, thumbs, feet and occasionally elbows.
Pressure therapy is combined with passive stretching movements that relax the body, releasing tension and increasing flexibility.

SWEDISH MASSAGE
Although therapeutic massage can be traced back to 5000 years to the ancient cultures of Egypt, Greece and Rome, Swedish massage, widely used in the West today, was popularized by Peter Hendrik Ling in the early 19th century. In 1813, Ling founded the Central Institute of gymnastics in Stockholm. He used his understanding of gymnastics, anatomy and physiology together with the knowledge available from the Chinese, Greek and Egyptian system to develop a modern, formalized method of massage.
Massage is a form of touch therapy that involves manipulation (physical movement) of the soft tissues of the body, such as the skin, tendons, ligaments and muscles. Although one is inclined to think that the bones are not effected by massage, this is untrue. A tense muscle can place a bone or joint under pressure as it is "pulled" by the muscle. Ligaments that join the muscle to the bone are tighter than they should be and very little circulation can get to the bonny structure because the capillaries and veins are contracted, much like a hose pipe when it is squeezed. The body needs all the oxygen it can get, and this is carried in the blood-stream through the veins, arteries and capillaries. When a stimulating massage takes place, the transportation of the necessary fluids is improved, either by removing toxins or by bringing fresh oxygenated blood to the body part that is being manipulated. Conversely, a gentle massage brings about relaxation and helps to reduce excessive emotional and physical stress, factors that are known to aggravate or increase symptoms of back pain.
